In a family of geniuses, a 6 year old boy named Ender is chosen by the world's international military to help save the world from aliens called buggers. He is then taken to a place called the Battle School, which is on a ship near Earth. While in Battle School, he shows exceptional ability above the other genius children, and keeps getting promoted to higher and higher armies in the school. His climb in the ranks gives him many enemies, and few friends. So he uses most of his free time to play a special game on his computer, a game that has infinite possibilities. Despite his genius, he is unable to beat the game. By the time he is 9, he ends up the platoon leader of the Phoenix Army, which is under the command of his friend, Petra. During that time, Ender's brother Peter, jealous of the fact that the military chose Ender and not himself, decides to try and manipulate the events of the world. His sister Valentine, the middle child of the three children, and one who deeply cares for Ender, decides to work with Peter in hopes of spreading a positive effect on the world. Later, Ender is made commander of the Dragon Army and is given soldiers who are mostly Launchies, or new recruits. But, of course, he gets promoted again. This time, though, he is transferred out of Battle School and brought to Command School. In Command School, he plays simulated battles against the buggers. Eventually, the battles against the buggers become more complex, and Ender has to try harder to win. Then one day, his commanders gather to watch a simulated battle against the buggers. This battle centers around the buggers' home planet. The object of the battle was to destroy the planet. Ender won that battle. Ender's commanders then disclosed to him the fact that all of his simulated bugger battles were actual battles with the buggers. He had been commanding the Earth's fleet of ships the whole time. Ender had commanded the fleet that had ultimately destroyed the buggers. In the end, Ender felt remorseful. He knew that he was learning to fight the buggers, but he hadn't wanted to totally destroy them. After winning that battle, Ender played the special game on his computer once more. Inside that game, he found an egg containing the bugger queen. He decided to keep the egg safe and from then on dedicate his life to finding a safe place for the buggers.
I think that everyone would be able to appreciate this book as much as I did. It has a large assortment of genres, like sci-fi, action, and drama. Its wide variety of genres can appeal to anyone's taste in books.
This book stands out in the sea of millions.
I think that Ender's Game was placed on the outstanding book list because it really says something about human nature. Ender's attitude toward the destruction of the buggers showed that even though he'd been treated harshly his whole life, he still had the ability to feel compassion and remorse for the buggers.
I never was very interested in Sci-Fi books, but this one easily persuaded me. This is a very appealing book to fall into.
